To help people to live longer, be healthier and lead happier, more fulfilled lives.
PROJECT: Bridge Young Carers

The term “young carer” means a person under 18 who provides, or intends to provide care, for another person. This may include practical and emotional care that would ordinarily be expected of an adult and, as a result, can have significant impacts on their childhood.

Being a young carer can be hard and they may feel that they don’t have sufficient time for homework, socialising, out of school activities and to do fun things. The Bridge Young Carers Service promotes family wellbeing and works to delay and reduce inappropriate caregiving levels.

We also promote early help for young carers and offer support to schools, colleges, organisations and agencies to gain Young Carers Charter Accreditation in order to positively highlight their support for young carers.

We have recently started an exciting new project with Bishop Auckland and Shildon Area Action Partnership to develop a Young Carers Neighbourhood Charter in the Bishop Auckland and Shildon area.
